Milling & Processing Workflow:

Step 1: CAD Design & Milling (30-45 minutes)

  • Design restoration with 20-25% enlargement to compensate for sintering shrinkage
  • Use wet milling for optimal results and minimal tool wear
  • Recommended bur: 1.0-2.0mm diameter carbide or diamond burs
  • Milling speed: 20,000-40,000 RPM
  • Feed rate: Moderate (adjust based on detail complexity)
  • Mill in pre-sintered state (white, porous material)
  • Important: Ensure adequate thickness for veneers (minimum 0.5-0.8mm recommended)

Step 2: Staining (10-20 minutes)

  • Apply zirconia-compatible staining liquid by immersion or the brush technique
  • The porous pre-sintered structure allows stain penetration into the material
  • Staining must be done BEFORE sintering for internal coloration
  • Allow stained restoration to dry completely before sintering
  • Multiple layers can be applied for the desired shade intensity

Step 3: Sintering (8-10 hours)

  • Place stained restoration in a sintering furnace
  • Follow the recommended sintering cycle at 1450°C (see table above)
  • During sintering, the material densifies and the stain becomes permanently fixed
  • Material shrinks 20-25% and becomes fully dense and strong (650 MPa)
  • Ensure proper support to prevent warping
  • Allow complete cooling before handling

Step 4: Glazing (Optional) & Cementation

  • Optional: Apply glaze for enhanced surface finish (fire at 800-900°C)
  • Check fit and make minor adjustments if needed
  • Clean thoroughly before cementation
  • Use resin-modified glass ionomer or resin cement
  • Consider airborne particle abrasion for improved bond strength

⚠️ Important Note: Staining MUST be performed before sintering. The pre-sintered zirconia is porous and allows stain penetration. After sintering at 1450°C, the material becomes fully dense and staining liquid cannot penetrate - only surface coloration would be possible.

Why Choose UT Zirconia?

The UT (Ultra Translucent) zirconia series is developed for cases requiring maximum esthetics. With 49% translucency – the highest in our series – UT offers exceptional light transmission and natural enamel-like appearance, making it especially suitable for veneers and anterior crowns where esthetics is paramount.

While its strength (650 MPa) is lower than SHT (1000 MPa) and ST (1200 MPa), it's specifically optimized for anterior restorations where maximum translucency is more important than maximum strength.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

💎 Product Features & Ultra Translucency Advantages

Q: What makes UT Zirconia different from SHT and ST zirconia?
A: UT (Ultra Translucent) Zirconia has 49% translucency – the highest in our series – compared to SHT's 47% and ST's 43%, providing maximum light transmission and the most natural, enamel-like appearance. However, UT has lower strength (650 MPa vs SHT's 1000 MPa and ST's 1200 MPa), making it specifically designed for anterior restorations only.

Q: What is the flexural strength of UT Zirconia?
A: UT White Zirconia has a flexural strength of 650 MPa, which is approximately 1.5-2x stronger than lithium disilicate (360-470 MPa) and sufficient for anterior crowns, veneers, and short-span anterior bridges in low-stress areas.

Q: Is 650 MPa strong enough for my restorations?
A: 650 MPa is sufficient for anterior restorations only: veneers, anterior crowns (incisors, canines), and short-span anterior bridges (3 units max). It is NOT recommended for posterior teeth, molars, long-span bridges, or high-stress areas. For those cases, choose SHT (1000 MPa), ST (1200 MPa), or HT (1300 MPa).

Q: What does 49% translucency mean clinically?
A: 49% translucency – the highest in our series – means the material allows maximum light to pass through, creating exceptional natural depth, vitality, and enamel-like appearance. This makes UT ideal for veneers and anterior crowns where esthetics is paramount.

🔧 Milling & Processing

Q: Which CAD/CAM systems are compatible with UT Zirconia?
A: UT White Zirconia Disc (98mm) is compatible with most open CAD/CAM milling systems, including Roland, VHF, Amann Girrbach, Sirona, and similar 98mm disc systems.

A: We recommend following the standard 1450°C sintering temperature for optimal translucency and strength. Deviating from this temperature may affect the final properties.

🎨 Staining & Esthetics

Q: Can UT White Zirconia be stained?
A: Yes! UT White Zirconia must be stained in the pre-sintered state (after milling, before sintering). The porous pre-sintered structure allows zirconia-compatible staining liquid to penetrate into the material. During the subsequent sintering at 1450°C, the stain becomes permanently fixed as the material densifies.

Q: Do I need to glaze UT Zirconia restorations?
A: Glazing is optional. While UT Zirconia can be polished to a high shine, applying a glaze can provide additional surface smoothness and esthetic enhancement. Use zirconia-compatible glaze materials.

Q: How does the 49% translucency affect esthetics?
A: The 49% translucency provides the most natural esthetics in our series, offering maximum light transmission and enamel-like appearance. This creates exceptional depth, vitality, and lifelike results, making UT ideal for veneers and high-esthetic anterior crowns.

🏥 Clinical Applications

Q: What cementation protocol should I use?
A: For UT Zirconia restorations:
1. Clean restoration thoroughly
2. Consider airborne particle abrasion (50μm Al₂O₃) for improved bond
3. Use resin-modified glass ionomer or resin cement
4. Follow the cement manufacturer's instructions
5. Ensure complete seating and remove excess cement

Q: Is UT Zirconia suitable for veneers?
A: Yes! With 49% translucency – the highest in our series – UT is excellent for anterior veneers where maximum natural appearance is critical. The ultra translucency creates exceptional enamel-like results that blend seamlessly with adjacent teeth.

Q: Can UT Zirconia be used for posterior restorations?
A: No. UT's 650 MPa strength is specifically designed for anterior restorations only. It is NOT recommended for posterior teeth (premolars, molars), long-span bridges, or high-stress areas. For posterior restorations, choose SHT (1000 MPa), ST (1200 MPa), or HT (1300 MPa).

Q: Can UT Zirconia be used for bruxers?
A: UT is NOT recommended for bruxers or patients with heavy occlusal forces. For bruxers, choose ST (1200 MPa) or HT (1300 MPa) for maximum durability.
