Milling & Processing Workflow:

Step 1: CAD Design & Milling (30-45 minutes)

  • Design restoration with 20-25% enlargement to compensate for sintering shrinkage
  • Use wet milling for optimal results and minimal tool wear
  • Recommended bur: 1.0-2.0mm diameter carbide or diamond burs
  • Milling speed: 20,000-40,000 RPM
  • Feed rate: Moderate (adjust based on detail complexity)
  • Mill in pre-sintered state (white, porous material)

Step 2: Staining (10-20 minutes)

  • Apply zirconia-compatible staining liquid by immersion or the brush technique
  • The porous pre-sintered structure allows stain penetration into the material
  • Staining must be done BEFORE sintering for internal coloration
  • Allow stained restoration to dry completely before sintering
  • Multiple layers can be applied for the desired shade intensity

Step 3: Sintering (8-10 hours)

  • Place stained restoration in sintering furnace
  • Follow recommended sintering cycle (see table above)
  • During sintering, the material densifies, and the stain becomes permanently fixed
  • Material shrinks 20-25% and becomes fully dense and strong (1000 MPa)
  • Ensure proper support to prevent warping
  • Allow complete cooling before handling

Step 4: Glazing (Optional) & Cementation

  • Optional: Apply glaze for enhanced surface finish (fire at 800-900°C)
  • Check fit and make minor adjustments if needed
  • Clean thoroughly before cementation
  • Use resin-modified glass ionomer or resin cement
  • Consider airborne particle abrasion for improved bond strength

⚠️ Important Note: Staining MUST be performed before sintering. The pre-sintered zirconia is porous and allows stain penetration. After sintering at 1500°C, the material becomes fully dense and staining liquid cannot penetrate - only surface coloration would be possible.

Why Choose SHT Zirconia?

The SHT (Super High Translucency) zirconia series is developed for cases requiring enhanced esthetics. With 47% translucency – higher than ST series (43%) – SHT offers superior light transmission and natural appearance, making it especially suitable for anterior restorations where esthetics is critical.

While its strength (1000 MPa) is slightly lower than ST (1200 MPa), it's still more than sufficient for most clinical applications, providing an excellent balance between esthetics and mechanical performance.

SHT Zirconia vs ST Zirconia

Feature SHT Zirconia ST Zirconia
Flexural Strength 1000 MPa 1200 MPa
Translucency 47% 43%
Best For Anterior esthetics Versatile - Anterior & Posterior
Light Transmission Higher (more natural) Good
Esthetic Priority Enhanced Balanced
Price Range $24-$42 $22-$40

Recommendation: Choose SHT Zirconia for anterior cases requiring enhanced esthetics and natural light transmission. Choose ST Zirconia for cases prioritizing maximum strength or versatile anterior/posterior use.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

💎 Product Features & High Translucency Advantages

Q: What makes SHT Zirconia different from ST Zirconia?
A: SHT (Super High Translucency) Zirconia has 47% translucency compared to ST's 43%, providing superior light transmission and more natural appearance. While SHT has slightly lower strength (1000 MPa vs 1200 MPa), it's optimized for anterior esthetics where natural appearance is critical.

Q: What is the flexural strength of SHT Zirconia?
A: SHT White Zirconia has a flexural strength of 1000 MPa, which is approximately 2-3x stronger than lithium disilicate (360-470 MPa) and sufficient for most crown and bridge applications, especially anterior restorations.

Q: Is 1000 MPa strong enough for posterior restorations?
A: Yes! 1000 MPa is sufficient for most posterior crowns, especially premolars. However, for high-stress posterior cases (molars, bruxers, long-span bridges), consider ST (1200 MPa) or HT (1300 MPa) for maximum strength.

Q: What does 47% translucency mean clinically?
A: 47% translucency means the material allows more light to pass through, creating natural depth, vitality, and lifelike appearance. This higher translucency (vs ST's 43%) makes SHT ideal for anterior restorations where esthetics is paramount.

🔧 Milling & Processing

Q: Which CAD/CAM systems are compatible with SHT Zirconia?
A: SHT White Zirconia Disc (98mm) is compatible with most open CAD/CAM milling systems, including Roland, VHF, Amann Girrbach, Sirona, and similar 98mm disc systems.

Q: What milling parameters should I use?
A: Recommended parameters:
• Bur size: 1.0-2.0mm diameter carbide or diamond burs
• Milling speed: 20,000-40,000 RPM
• Feed rate: Moderate (adjust based on detail)
• Milling type: Wet milling preferred
• Enlargement factor: 20-25% to compensate for sintering shrinkage

Q: What is the linear shrinkage rate?
A: SHT Zirconia has a linear shrinkage rate of approximately 20-25% during sintering. Always design and mill restorations with this enlargement factor to achieve the correct final size.

Q: Can I adjust the sintering temperature?
A: We recommend following the standard 1480°C sintering temperature for optimal strength and translucency. Deviating from this temperature may affect the final properties.

🎨 Staining & Esthetics

Q: Can SHT White Zirconia be stained?
A: Yes! SHT White Zirconia must be stained in the pre-sintered state (after milling, before sintering). The porous pre-sintered structure allows zirconia-compatible staining liquid to penetrate into the material. During the subsequent sintering at 1500°C, the stain becomes permanently fixed as the material densifies.

Q: Do I need to glaze SHT Zirconia restorations?
A: Glazing is optional. While SHT Zirconia can be polished to a high shine, applying a glaze can provide additional surface smoothness and esthetic enhancement. Use zirconia-compatible glaze materials.

Q: How does the 47% translucency affect esthetics?
A: The 47% translucency provides excellent esthetics for anterior restorations, offering superior light transmission compared to ST (43%). This creates more natural depth, vitality, and lifelike appearance, making SHT ideal for esthetic-critical cases.

🏥 Clinical Applications

Q: What cementation protocol should I use?
A: For SHT Zirconia restorations:
1. Clean restoration thoroughly
2. Consider airborne particle abrasion (50μm Al₂O₃) for improved bond
3. Use resin-modified glass ionomer or resin cement
4. Follow the cement manufacturer's instructions
5. Ensure complete seating and remove excess cement

Q: Is SHT Zirconia suitable for veneers?
A: Yes! With 47% translucency, SHT is excellent for anterior veneers where natural appearance is critical. The higher translucency creates lifelike results that blend seamlessly with adjacent teeth.

Q: Can SHT Zirconia be used for bruxers?
A: For mild to moderate bruxers, SHT's 1000 MPa strength is sufficient. For severe bruxers or heavy occlusal forces, consider ST (1200 MPa) or HT (1300 MPa) for maximum durability.

📦 Ordering & Packaging

Q: How many restorations can I get from one disc?
A: The number of restorations depends on the disc thickness and restoration size. Typically, a 20mm disc can produce 3-5 anterior crowns or 1-2 multi-unit bridges. Thicker discs (22-25mm) are ideal for larger or multiple restorations.
