ST Multilayer Zirconia for Natural Gradient Restorations

ST Multilayer Zirconia is developed for dental laboratories that need a more natural shade transition than uniform pre-shaded zirconia, while still maintaining the balanced strength and production efficiency of the ST series.

The multilayer gradient structure helps restorations show a smoother transition from the cervical area to the incisal area, making it useful for esthetic crown-and-bridge cases where a more lifelike final result is preferred.

Compared with ST White zirconia, ST Multilayer can reduce manual shade-building work. Compared with ST Pre-shaded zirconia, it provides a more natural gradient appearance rather than a single uniform shade.

  • Multilayer zirconia for natural shade transition
  • Suitable for anterior and posterior crown-and-bridge restorations
  • Balanced strength and translucency for daily esthetic cases
  • Helps reduce manual staining work compared with white zirconia
  • Available in multiple shades and thicknesses

Multilayer Gradient Structure

Designed to support a smoother cervical-to-incisal transition for more natural-looking zirconia restorations.

ST Multilayer Zirconia is designed with a multilayer gradient structure that transitions from higher-chroma cervical areas to more translucent incisal areas. This helps dental laboratories create restorations with improved depth, shade transition, and natural appearance after sintering.

The gradient structure is especially useful for cases where a single uniform shade may look too flat, but the laboratory still needs a practical material for everyday production rather than a premium high-end esthetic zirconia.

  • Cervical Area

Designed with stronger chroma expression to support a more natural cervical shade appearance.

  • Body Area

Provides a balanced transition zone for crown body shade and overall restoration harmony.

  • Incisal Area

Designed with improved translucency to help create a more lifelike incisal effect.

ST Multilayer zirconia disc milled dental restoration design for CAD CAM workflow

Recommended ST Multilayer Zirconia Workflow

  1. Select the required shade and disc thickness according to the restoration design.
  2. Design the restoration in CAD software based on restoration type, connector design, and occlusal clearance.
  3. Confirm the correct cervical-to-incisal orientation before nesting.
  4. Position the cervical area toward the darker/chroma side and the incisal edge toward the more translucent side.
  5. Nest the restoration properly in the 98mm multilayer zirconia disc.
  6. Mill the restoration using a zirconia-compatible CAD/CAM milling system and validated milling parameters.
  7. Clean the milled restoration carefully and remove zirconia dust before sintering.
  8. Sinter according to the recommended furnace program and batch-specific instructions.
  9. Apply surface stain or glaze only if additional characterization or final shade adjustment is required.
  10. Finish, polish, and inspect the final restoration before delivery.

What is ST Multilayer Zirconia best used for?

ST Multilayer Zirconia is best used for esthetic crown-and-bridge restorations where laboratories need balanced strength, natural shade transition, and efficient shade workflow. It is suitable for anterior crowns, posterior crowns, 3–4 unit bridges, and daily esthetic zirconia cases.

What is the difference between ST Multilayer and ST Pre-shaded Zirconia?

ST Pre-shaded Zirconia has a uniform pre-integrated shade, while ST Multilayer Zirconia has a gradient shade transition from cervical to incisal areas. ST Multilayer is usually preferred when a more natural shade transition is required.

What is the difference between ST Multilayer and ST White Zirconia?

ST White Zirconia is a white base designed for manual staining or coloring workflows. ST Multilayer Zirconia already includes a built-in gradient shade structure, helping reduce manual shade-building work and improve esthetic efficiency.

How many shade options are available?

ST Multilayer Zirconia is available in 20 shade options, including A1, A2, A3, A3.5, A4, B1, B2, B3, B4, C1, C2, C3, C4, D2, D3, D4, BL1, BL2, BL3, and BL4.

Do I need to stain ST Multilayer Zirconia before sintering?

In most standard shade cases, additional pre-sintering staining is not required because the gradient shade is already integrated into the material. However, surface stain or glaze can still be applied after sintering when additional characterization is needed.

Can I still apply surface stains or glaze?

Yes. Surface stains and glaze can be applied according to the laboratory workflow if final characterization, shade adjustment, or surface finishing is required.

How should I position the restoration in the multilayer disc?

The restoration should be nested according to the correct cervical-to-incisal direction. The cervical area should be positioned toward the higher-chroma side, and the incisal area should be positioned toward the more translucent side. Incorrect orientation may affect the final shade transition.

What is the flexural strength of ST Multilayer Zirconia?

ST Multilayer Zirconia provides flexural strength up to 1200 MPa, making it suitable for a wide range of crown-and-bridge restorations when used according to proper design, milling, and sintering protocols.

Which CAD/CAM systems are compatible?

This product is supplied in a 98mm open-system disc format and is compatible with many open dental CAD/CAM milling systems that support 98mm zirconia discs. Please confirm your machine holder and milling strategy before ordering.

Can you provide CE and FDA-related documentation?

Yes. CE and FDA-related documentation can be provided for review when applicable. Please contact us before ordering if your laboratory requires a specific certificate, batch, or regulatory documentation.
